Everyone knows that if you book an all-in, or go on a family holiday, that cooking is not your favourite activity. You like to go out eating. Out eating is easy; no dishes afterwards, no preparations before, no groceries,...
But if you cook yourself (of course, if you have the opportunity to cook yourself), it can make your vacation cheaper too.
When I was in the United States in 2018, I stayed with my aunt. And some of the tips I got from her. I used to travel with no snacks or water bottle. I bought it whenever needed. But if I look back at it, I had spent more money AND time on just sitting in a bar or restaurant eating/drinking something instead of wandering around.
So I changed my eating and drinking habits so they became more healthy & less expensive.
5 Tips to make travelling healthy more easy.

1) A water bottle is your best friend.
Back home I have a lot of water bottles. Big ones, small ones, shakers, for kids or for adults. Every bottle has its purpose. So do I have a bottle that joins me on my travels. Water is very important to stay hydrated. Travelling or not, you need it.
One of the first things I do is searching if the tap water can be drunk or not at my destination. If not, I would buy water in the supermarket. Otherwise, tap water it is.
FACT: Around 60 % of our body is made of water.
2) Self made snackie-times
Leaving your room/hotel/Airbnb/... for a long day of wandering around can be exhausting. Beside water are snacks or meals also very important. You need to fuel your body, in the right way.
One of my all-time favourite snacks to bring along are nuts. I love all nuts. Also crackers are very delicious to take with you. But it is not all about the bites.
Simply some hummus and bread are also easy to take with you.
TIP: Do not take snacks with you that can get bad because of heat, cold,...
3) Fresh fruits or verggies at the local markets and grocery stores.
In Verona-Italy, for example, it is very easy to go to the market square (close to Juliet's balcony). They sell fresh fruit salads and not just small ones. Especially in summer they are very delicious and refreshing.
It is also very easy to go to a supermarket or local grocery shop and buy some fruits yourself (apple, bananas, grapes,...).
No fresh fruits? Try to check out if there is no smoothie bar close to you.
NOTE: Make sure you get the fruits out of your backpacks ones back home. They can get squeezed and make a dirty mess in there.
4) Make your daily trips your excersize.
When I go on a trip and I am discovering a new city, I easily walk up to 15 KM a day. So avoid public transport if possible and go walking.
You are no big fan of walking? Then you always can rent a bike. Nowadays there are a lot of cities with those local bike renting systems. The only thing you probably need is an application on your phone.
You are not a city person? Go hiking, climbing, swimming, ... If you go more outdoors, I'm sure you'll find a lot of great and active things to do!
NOTE: Whether I am travelling or not, I always have my sport outfit with me (to go running). I also try to find those public work-out parks. In Malta, for example, you have a nice one in Sliema next to the beach.
5) Airplanes are used for flying, not as a restaurant.
I know, very attempting when you have a late flight and you still need to eat, or an early one and you didn't had time for breakfast. Been there, done that. But if you know you are going to be hungry on your flight, then take some snacks with you.
I always have some of my energy bars with me, maybe some nuts. And my water bottle? Well, after luggage checking, I just go and fill it up again. Most of the airports have those taps especially for drinking nowadays.
